We’re thrilled to welcome Nick Lambert, Co-Founder of NLA International, Former Rear Admiral, Royal Navy, to our 18th June event. Nick will explore how governance, innovation & technology can build the next generation of smart, connected blue economies. After a distinguished 29-year career with the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), Greg brings deep diplomatic and international experience to global discussions on sustainability, development, and geopolitics. His career has taken him across Europe, Africa, North America, and the Caribbean, including roles as High Commissioner to Guyana, Non-Resident Ambassador to Suriname, and Resident British Commissioner to Antigua and Barbuda.
Recognised with an OBE in 2021 and an Honorary Doctorate of Law from Queen’s University Belfast, Greg combines his diplomatic insight with a strong understanding of the private sector — spanning energy, infrastructure, technology, and defence.
In his upcoming reflections, Greg examines the realities behind the Blue Economy — a concept often hailed as transformative for island and coastal nations, but one that is increasingly contested and complex:
• What does the Blue Economy truly mean in practice?
• How are these spaces being economically, politically, and financially exploited by external interests?
• And what must change to ensure the benefits genuinely serve the nations they’re meant to uplift?
